We visited the school again today to pick up Adrian's belongings, books and the photo album that the school has prepared for us on Adrian's very first school year. While we thought it would be the very LAST visit to the school, the principal told us that the school will still be open "unofficially" in July. She encouraged us to let Adrian go for school again until July 20th - according to the plan, it was supposed to be the last school day before the summer holiday. The "class" will be run a little different though there's still activities for the kids to do. We all think it's not a bad idea and decided to let Adrian "resumes" school starting July 2nd.

Mama took up the rain/heat challenge and brought Adrian to visit the HK Disneyland first time this summer! We arrived there just before 11am to catch the "Stitch's Summer Dance Bash". Despite of the rain in the middle of the dance bash, Adrian was all excited that he danced together with the performers. Out of the many visits we've had at Disney, it had the least people that day. We didn't have to wait to get in "Small World" & we even played twice on the "Buzz Lightyear" game. It's the first time we sat on the first row in the Golden Mickey Show and we managed to tape part of the show (using our cell phone) for Adrian to enjoy it after. It was great fun spending the AM & PM at Disney and we left there "half" soaking wet after watching the Mickey's Waterworks Parade. We'll definitely go again in July.

Today the government announced Kindergartens and Primary Schools will remain closed and will re-open after summer holidays. Though it was somehow expected but we feel sad that Adrian's first school year has to end this way. Adrian has been really good during the 2 weeks that he's home and we had a great time bonding with one another. He's more skillful in playing with his blocks, learning more on colors that not only can he recognize but finally say it correctly with each color. Apart from the school suspension, we made a trip to QMH this afternoon for a blood test. The blood collected will be used to test & see if the vaccination (esp. Hep B doses) are effective.

It's been a week since Adrian is off school. Adrian mentions about "going to school" at times and it's hard to explain why he can't go to school now. We made a trip to the school this afternoon to collect the handbook and some worksheets for Adrian to do during this 2 weeks while he's home.

Had a hard time collecting Adrian's urine first thing in the morning as he's not in the mood because he got waken up by us. Arrived QMH before 10am and we got assigned to see Dr Chan again this time. We went over the result of the MIBG Scan and Adrian's last VMA/HVA readings. Things are looking good and Mama suggested the next appointment date on July 27th, the
day before our departure.

Mama went to HKSH one last time to pick up the MIBG Scan Report this morning. We are happy to know the Scan result is CLEAR showing normal uptake. We'll show the report to our doctor at QMH on our next appointment on Jun 15th. However, another BIG headache for Mama in the next 2 weeks - the Government has just announced all kindergartens & primary schools will be suspended for 2 weeks due to the recent H1N1 outbreak. So poor Adrian will have to stay home in the next 2 weeks.

Same routine as yesterday except the Scan was scheduled at 13:30. So Adrian had a normal school day and finished lunch at school before heading to HKSH. Adrian must have felt more comfortable today that he requested to sleep on the bed instead of being held by Mama after taking the sedation drug. The Scan took a little longer 30 mins this time and Adrian was still in deep sleep after the test. Mama let him slept on the couch in the waiting area for another hour before waking him up to go home. We were told the Scan is all complete and the report will be ready tomorrow morning!

Jun 9, 2009

Unlike the common practice at QMH, Adrian did not need to fast for taking chloral hydrate (sedation) for the MIBG Scan. But since the Scan was scheduled at noon, Adrian skipped lunch anyway. Adrian cried the minute he saw the syringe with the drug and luckily he fell asleep shortly after (in maybe 20 mins) in Mama's sore arms. We were told the Scan will be finished in half an hour and so Mama quickly grabbed lunch and as soon as she got back to the examination room, it was finished already! Adrian woke up shortly after and he'll need to come back for the return scan tomorrow.

We brought along Adrian's medical records and arrived HKSH at 09:30 in the morning. First, a very caring nurse came by to apply some Elma Numbing Cream on Adrian's hands to help minimize the pain later when he will be poked for the radioactive injection. She even drew funny faces on the bandages that cover up the cream and blew up a heart-shaped balloon for Adrian while we were waiting to see the doctor. Next, we met with the doc and went over Adrian's medical history. Adrian was then given KI (Potassium Iodine) to take and the injection happened an hour after he had the KI so that his thyroid will be protected. We were done before noon and the first Scan will be performed 24 hours later i.e. noon tomorrow.

Adrian started coughing two days ago after school. It's not that serious until he developed a fever (> 38C) late afternoon yesterday. The fever didn't go away (low grade fever of high 37C) even after taking Panadol and so we decided to bring him go see the doctor this evening. Adrian was diagnosed with Bronchitis and was given Antibiotics to help clear the virus/bacteria. Hopefully it won't mess up with the original planned MIBG on Monday.

As soon as we found out that the MIBG Scan (if performed in private hospital) is likely to be covered under the insurance plan from Papa's workplace. We've co-ordinated with QMH to make a referral for Adrian to do the Scan at HK Sanatorium & Hospital (HKSH). Though the appointment has been made on Jun 8th, Mama made a trip to HKSH today to arrange for payment and registration. The hospital looks VERY nice when compared to public hospital like QMH. The reception area in the Nuclear Medicine Department (where the MIBG will take place) is like an airport lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Happy Valley Racecourse. However, the staff in the reception area are purely admin staff that they have no ideas about the drugs/procedures such as fasting requirements regarding the Scan. We will be back in the morning on June 8th to see the doctor and the Scan will commence in the afternoon the same day.
